Question:
Apart from the conventional methods (breathing excercises,
cognitive thinking etc), does anyone out there have any
suggestions for stopping/reducing panic attacks quickly
when they occur.
I`ve tried a number of the conventional methods (including
medication) and so far none of them seem to be helping me
with this problem.
Answer:
When an attack is triggered, try preoccupying your mind with something
else - anything else - like counting backwards in threes, singing the
national anthem - anything which requires your concentration. By
interrupting the pattern and diverting your attentions elsewhere, you
will break the cycle and shorten the attack. With practise, the
attacks won't bother you any longer.
IMO, taking drugs doesn't fall into the category of 'conventional'
methods. Perhaps it's time to try something 'unconventional' (whatver
that is) ;)
When I feel an anxiety attack coming on, I try to observe it as if from
the outside. If I "look" at it calmly and await its development - it
kindof gets embarrassed and goes away after a short while before it
turns into something nasty.
I think trying to stay detached from it helps. Not a cure all - but a
way of keeping it under control.
The Lord can cure you all if you would just pray harder...There
is no reason to be a Weak Panic Soul, pray harder and the Lord will
forgive you of your sins and lift your anxiety.
Yes Sir, anxiety is the Lords way of punishing all of you for your sins.
Repent and pray harder, it's that easy because the Lord love you even if
you are a sinner.
