Overcoming Panic Attacks Without Drugs?

Question:
Note, I don't think there's anything wrong with taking mind-altering substances, for health or for play. I sometimes wish I were so constituted, but I have avoided them primarily out of a personal fear of their unknown impact. It's one of those "healthy" paranoias nobody thinks is a problem until a time like this, when medication is apparently called for.

Now I've had a month-long run getting onto and off of Zoloft (which did way more harm than good) and I'm two weeks into trying Prozac (which hasn't had any effect yet, but I understand it can take six weeks to start "working.") I'm reading the discussions here, with all the back and forth about balancing this medication against that one, and I'm feeling like a stranger in a very foreign land.

Has anyone sucessfully made it through their panic disorder without meds?

take your ativan out of the freezer-you are changing the compound by too low a storage temperature and will destroy the rather then save them

sounds like we're in the same boat. I had very similar thoughts about anti depressants as you and after trying Seroxat (Paxil) once and having the worst two days of my life i vowed never to touch them (or anything else similar) again. It's taken me a long time (about three years) but i've made it through anx/panic and aggoraphobia without meds. I'm not saying it's easy or that i'd necessarily recommend to everyone but it is possible. At one stage i was virtually holed up in my bedroom day after day using booze to self medicate and i've gone from that to surviving a tube ride through London in the middle of the evening rush hour in the most crowded carriage imaginable with vitually no anx at all so it can be done but as i said, it aint easy and it takes time. I've been trying to use supplements to make sure the body is getting what it needs and balance things out that way. I've also just started using flower essences to help with the anxiety and uneasiness. So far it's making a difference. Or maybe this bout of anxiousness is over (about time it's been going on for most of April).

If you want to know more, I will post some links and what I am taking. Like I said the supplements help but if I don't take them it goes back to the way it was.

Today I managed to get three balls going in one complete cycle. Woo hoo! I can feel how it'll be once the rhythm is part of me. I'm at 25mg of Prozac now, but at least I'm doing something other than drugs about it; something that I can point to and recognize.
