Answer:
May I suggest that you visit the group alt.support.anxiety.panic.
There are a large number of well informed sufferers and some
therapists there who can help you a great deal to understand what you
are experiencing.
For periods of time in my life over the last 9 years, I've
experienced them every day, sometimes several a day. I know that limiting my
intake of caffeine is essential. There are periods when I cannot have any
coffee, colas, etc. Then there are other times when none of those things
bother me. There is a great deal of debate over exactly what causes panic
attacks and what can be done to cure them. I've heard the gamut, including
heavy-duty drugs like prozac. I had one doctor who tried to put me on xanax
(sp?) and I was ready to go along with him in desperation until I met a client
who was going to the same doctor. This guy also had panic attacks and was on
xanax--he was like a zombie. I never took the drugs, I've watched my caffeine
intake, I try to eat a healthy diet, and I cultivate the best mental outlook I
can. Remember one thing: Many people experience panic attacks, but I've
never heard of anyone dying from them. The symptoms are terrifying, but they
go away just as they came on. Focus on the future, keep a positive attitude
and keep your mind occupied with good things. Wish I had a magic cure for
you--I could probably make a fortune!
Anxiety also is related to nutritional deficiencies. Dramatic
improvements have been found with dietary changes and supplements such
as B-complex vitamins and minerals. Calcium is particularily
important. However, the body needs some other things to help it
absorb calcium.
